When to Observe Jumadal Al-Aakherah Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Sunday 30 March 2014) at 18:45 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Sunday 30 March 2014) and (Monday 31 March 2014) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Saturday Tuesday 01 April 2014 and in the Western Region will be on Tuesday 01 April 2014. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Indonesia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was superb, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "On Monday (March 31, 2014), we tried to observe to new crescent moon of Jumada Tsaniyah 1435 AH from Assalaam Observatory, Surakarta with all my students of CASA (Assalaam Students Astronomi Club). The New Crescent was NOT SIGHTED because the sun was covered by thick cloud at 04:55 pm, so we could not see the sun until  it sets. The moon also covered by thick and wide cloud since 05:00 - moonset.

The first of jumadal tsaniyah 1435 ah will be start on Tuesday, April 1st, 2014 according to the government calendar (Imkan Rukyat Criterion)."



Iran

Location: Damzad foothills in the East of Shahreza (latitude: 32 00 N, longitude: 51 52 E, elevation: 1825m from sea level, time zone: +4.5 GMT)
Equipments: two sets of 15*70, one sets of 20*90 binoculars, one 20*80 binocular, one compass.
Atmospheric condition: hazy and partly cloudy in western horizon.
Horizon obstacles: about 2°
Apparent sunset: 19:12
Results: Moon crescent was seen by 15*70 binoculars by Shahram Rahmati at 19:30 between dust and clouds, for the first time. Other group members observed crescent by binoculars subsequently. Crescent observed by Saghar Sahba 19:45 by naked eye. Other group members observed crescent by naked eye subsequently.

Eng. Mohammed Abdulkarim said: "تمت رؤية الهلال بإستخدام المنظار لدقائق معدودة ولم تتم رؤيتة بالعين المجردة حيث كانت السماء خالية من السحب إلا أن نسبة الرطوبة كانت مرتفعة جداً الأمر الذي أعاق رؤية الهلال بالعين المجردة. "



Oman


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi from Al-Fulaij City in Muscat State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi said: "The sky was partly cloudy, aand a little bit of haze. We managed to sight the crescent moon using CCD before sunset at 16:45 PM (about 1hr 37min before sunset). However, we were able to sight with the telescope (eyepiece) about 18 after sunset."



Saudi Arabia

3 . Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from Dammam City in Eastern Province State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "On Monday 31 March 2014 (30 Jumada Al Ula/Ummul Qura), I was visiting Dammam and tried to sight the Hilal of Jumada Al Ukhra, but was unable to do so as it was totally cloudy. However, I have been told that the Madinah & Shaqra groups have been able to sight the Hilal on that evening.

I also joined a group of observers on the previous day (Sunday 30 March 2014) as a local formality, but the sky was totally cloudy/dusty. The sun disappeared from the horizon well before sunset. But even if it was clear, it would *not* have been seen as the moon had set before the sun on that evening.

As salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.

Alhamdulillah my family (wife, three children) and I sighted by naked eye the new crescent moon of Jumada al Thani just outside our home in Richmond, Texas, USA on Monday, March 31, 2014 between 8:10pm and 8:20pm. After sighting the moon by eye, I took a couple of pictures to document the sighting. May Allah shower us with His blessings this month and accept this sighting from us. Ameen

Exact location: Richmond, Texas, USA (Latitude: 29.64, Longitude: -95.65)

Exact time: 8:10pm - 8:20pm

Altitude of the moon: Approximately 50-60 finger widths above the horizon.

Location of the moon: An azimuth of approximately 280 degrees.

Orientation of the moon: The tips were at 4 o'clock and 8 o'clock (see attached photos).

Crescent movement: It moved slightly down during the sighting.

Number of adult witnesses: 2 adult witness (my wife and I)"

Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "This evening (Monday, March 31, 2014), the crescent moon of the month of Jumada-at-Thania was sighted in Blacksburg, VA  (Lat: 37° 15' 40" N, Lng: 80° 26' 56" W, and elevation: 646 meters).  I arrived at my sighting location (The Blacksburg Middle School) at 7:39 pm EST (sunset: 7:43 pm).  The western horizon was partly cloudy and the atmospheric condition was hazy.  Using a pair binoculars (7X50), I scanned the suspected area, just above the sun and slightly toward its left.  At 7:44 pm, the crescent was sighted with the binoculars and at 7:59 pm with naked eye.  It was high but very thin with the horns at 3:30 and 7:30 O'clock   I left the site when the moon disappeared behind clouds, prior to moonset (moonset: 8:58 pm).  At 7:55 pm, the temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and pressure were 53.6 F, 30.2 F, 41%, and 30.12 in, respectively.

I could see the crescent well enough through a telescope at 20x. I tried different settings and filters and also took a few pictures. Will try again tomorrow."
