When to Observe Dhul Hijjah Waxing (NEW) Crescent ?


The geocentric conjunction (Geocentric New Moon) will occur Inshalla on (Saturday 11 August 2018) at 09:58 UT.

Sighting the new crescent on (Saturday 11 August 2018) and (Sunday 12 August 2018) is shown in the below graphs using the program Accurate Times by Mohammad Odeh according to Odeh criterion. Where:-

According to the Universal Hejric Calendar (UHC), which is based on the calculated crescent visibility, the start of this month in the Eastern Region will be on Monday 13 August 2018 and in the Western Region will be on Sunday 12 August 2018. Kindly notice that the UHC is a pre-calculated calendar, which adopts a certain criterion to start the new Hejric month. Your country/organization might adopt different criterion to start the new Hejric month. So it is highly advised to read the UHC website before giving any judgment.

Algeria


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Merouane Ali Khoudja from بن شيكاو City in المدية State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Merouane Ali Khoudja said: "في يوم السبت 11 أوت 2018 الموافق لـ 29 ذو القعدة 1439 ، قام أعضاء الجمعية العلمية الفلكية البوزجاني بالتنقل إلى ارتفاع 1240 متر بأعالي مدينة المدية بالجزائر مستعينين بجهاز التلسكوب قصد تحري هلال ذو الحجة 1439 إلا أنه لم يرى لا يرى لا بالعين المجردة ولا باستعمال التلسكوب كما أشارت إليه الحسابات الفلكية كما أن تموقع الغيوم في الأفق الغربي صعب المهمة أكثر. "

Germany


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Eng. Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "After observing the crescent visually during the day with a telescope i also tried to observe it after sunset. Conditions were very good and the crescent could easily be seen with the naked eye."



2 . Time of observation: Before sunset . Seen: ICOP member Eng. Martin Elsaesser from Munich City in Bavaria State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Martin Elsaesser said: "The sky was of very good quality so i tried to see the crescent visually with a telescope in daytime. Around 15:45 i could see it clearly enough with a medium refractor. I had aligned the mount on the sun and venus and then just moved it to the position of the crescent arc. "



Hungary

Al-Majari from M6 City in Tolna State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging



Indonesia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi from Surakarta City in Central Java State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not seen by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The new crescent of Dzulhijjah 1439 AH was very easy seen on Sunday, August 12, 2018 from Rowasiya Observatory at Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia, neither by my students of CASA at Assalaam Observatory. The sky was hazy.

The moon was seen by LAPAN at Pasuruan and many observers from LFNU at several locations.

The 1st of Dzulhijjah 1439 AH at Indonesia begin on Monday, August 13, 2018 according to Itsbat on Saturday, August 11, 2018."



Iran


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Hossein Janghorbani from Hoonejan Village Located at 60 kilometers South We City in Isfahan State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging

Date: Sunday, 08/12/2018
Location: Hoonejan Village Located at 60 kilometers South West shahreza  
 (latitude: 31° 35' N, longitude: 51° 51' E, elevation: 2411 m from sea level, time zone: +4.5 GMT)
Equipments: Two set of 15*70 binoculars, one sets of 20*60 binoculars, One set of 20*90 binoculars, One set of 25*100 binoculars, One compass.
Atmospheric condition: Hazy .
Horizon obstacles: 4.5°
Apparent Sunset: 19:30
Apparent Moonset: 20:16
Results: Moon crescent was seen by 25*100 binoculars and by naked eye by Ali Janghorbani at 19:51, for the first time. Other group members observed crescent by binoculars and by naked eye subsequently.

Mr. Kassim Bahali said: "Hilal of Zulhijah 1439 was seen by naked eye and binocular."



Mauritania

Seen: ICOP member Dr. Elkhalil Maouloud from انواكشوط City in الولاية الغربية State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was superb, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Elkhalil Maouloud said: "كانت الرؤية واضحة للكثير"



Morocco


1 . Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Dr. Hassan Talibi from بنسليمان City in بنسليمان State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Hassan Talibi said: "السلام عليكم تم رصد الهلال من مناطق أخرى من المغرب "



2 . Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. Abdessamad Doukkane from الناظور City in الشرق State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Abdessamad Doukkane said: "ثبوت الرؤية ..تملالت اقليم قلعة السراغنة وسط المملكة المغربية, وقد توصلت جمعية المبادرة المغربية للعلوم والفكر بصور أخرى لثبوت الرؤية بالصويرة وأكادير"



Nepal


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Mohammad Aamir from Kathmandu City in Bagmati State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Mohammad Aamir said: "We tried to see the crescent of the month Dhul Hijjah for few minutes after sunset but it was raining and the horizon was full of cloud. Later, we contacted our friends, relatives in different part of Nepal but the answer was "Not Sighted". So, the crescent was not sighted anywhere in Nepal because of bad weather.
Darul Ifta Wal Qazaa, Nepali Jame Masjid later established contact in the neighbouring countries. Accept India, other countries had announced the sighting of the moon. 
We had a 4.5 hours long meeting with Darul Qazaa to follow Australia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the majority countries. They have same matla that we have and to follow Odeh criterion. Finally, they were convinced and announced that Monday, 13/08/2018 as officially first day of Dhul Hijjah in Nepal."



Nigeria


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Usman Dukku from Bauchi City in Bauchi State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not sought by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Usman Dukku said: "Because of clouds and a brief shower, we did not attempt sighting the crescent."



Oman


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi from Al-Fulaij Obseravtory City in Muscat State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was seen by telescope, the crescent was seen by CCD Imaging
Prof. Mohammed Al-Bussaidi said: "The Crescent Moon was seen by aid of the telescope. Due to haze, dust and some clouds it was not possible to sight with the naked eye. "



Palestine

Saudi Arabia


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Mr. Mooad Shaqour from سكاكا City in الجوف State mentioned that the sky was clear, the atmospheric condition was superb, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Mooad Shaqour said: "تمت الرؤية بالعين المجردة والتقاط الصورة بالجوال، علما بأن اليوم هو الأول من ذي الحجة في السعودية."

Time of observation: After sunset.Seen by others: ICOP member Mr. Nular Bary from Borella City in Colombo State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Nular Bary said: "Assalamualaikum Wr Wb.
Today 29th of Dhul-qi'dah 1439H (12/08/2018) cloudy evening in Colombo. The New Moon of Dul Hijjah been sighted in several other places in the country today and The Colombo Grand Mosque Hillal committee announced to complete the  month of  Dhul-qi'dah with 29 days and start the month of Dul Hijjah Tomorrow Monday 13th.August 2018."InShaAllah" Eid Dul Alha will be on  Wednesday 22th. August 2018. in Sri Lanka

Eng. Mohamed Ahsan said: "The crescent moon of Dul-Hijjah has been sighted by me in Negombo."



United Kingdom


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Mr. Mohammad Baig from SLOUGH City in Berkshire State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was clear, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not sought by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Mr. Mohammad Baig said: "After two months of clear skies, we had heavy clouds all day right to the evening. "



2 . Time of observation: After sunset. Not Seen: ICOP member Eng. Qamar Uddin from Thirsk City in North Yorkshire State mentioned that the sky was totally cloudy, the atmospheric condition was very hazy, the crescent was not seen by naked eye, the crescent was not seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Eng. Qamar Uddin said: "There were 3 of us who came to Sutton Bank (Thirsk), 1000 ft above see level to sight the Hilal of Dhul Hijjah. Unfortunately, it was totally cloudy, but we saw a very nice view of the horizon without any obstructions or light pollution. Our group comprised of myself (Qamar Uddin, York), Hafiz Dr Ayyub Patel and Mehboob Issa (Dewsbury). Note, we have received positive sighting reports from other countries including  Morocco."



United States


1 . Time of observation: After sunset. Seen: ICOP member Dr. Javad Torabinejad from Blacksburg City in Virginia State mentioned that the sky was partly cloudy, the atmospheric condition was hazy, the crescent was seen by naked eye, the crescent was seen by binocular, the crescent was not sought by telescope, the crescent was not sought by CCD Imaging
Dr. Javad Torabinejad said: "I arrived at my sighting location at 8:05 pm EDT (sunset: 8:19 pm).  The western horizon was partly cloudy and hazy.  Using a pair of binoculars (7X50), I started scanning the horizon.  Venus was sighted at 8:09 pm through the pair of binoculars and then at 8:16 pm by naked eye.  At 8:20 pm, I left the location for another one.  I arrived at the new location at 8:26 pm and waited for the moon to appear in a clearing.  The first binocular sighting of the crescent was at 8:37 pm followed by naked eye sighting.  The horns were at 1:30 and 6:30 O'clock (1:30;4:00;6:30).  I left the site at 9:00 pm (moonset: 9:28 pm)."

Mr. AR Sugeng Riyadi said: "The old crescent of Dzulqo'dah 1439 AH was very easy seen on Friday, August 10, 2018 from Rowasiya Observatory at Bendo Ketitang Juwiring Klaten Central Java Indonesia. The sky was clear."
